​Sangeeta (Geeta) has been a paediatric occupational therapist for over 6 years, working across both the public and private sectors.

Throughout her career, she has collaborated across the NDIS, private, and public health systems, supporting neurodivergent children, their families and more recently, children affected by early childhood trauma.

 

Within her sessions, Geeta strives to create a welcoming space where children and families feel valued, heard, and supported.

She practices trauma-responsive, neuro-affirming occupational therapy with a strong emphasis on building confidence and resilience.

Geeta's philosophy is to take the time to understand what is happening "under the surface" and ensure a family-centred approach,

tailoring sessions to meet each family's unique needs.

 

Her areas of experience include:

Developmental Paediatrics:

  • Fine motor development: Enhancing strength, control, and coordination in tasks like handwriting, feeding, dressing, and toileting.

  • Gross motor development: Building balance, control, coordination, and proprioception to promote independence when participating in daily actitivies

  • Self-care skills: Supporting children with toileting, sleep hygiene, mealtime routines, and dressing.

  • Play skills: Encouraging varied play interests and developing skills in turn-taking, sharing, winning and losing.

  • Executive functioning: Assisting with planning, organisation, problem-solving, attention, impulse control and safety awareness.

  • Emotional regulation: Helping children understand and manage big emotions, fostering coping skills, and encouraging confidence and resilience.

  • Sensory processing: Providing strategies to support sensory needs, enabling children to engage in daily activities.

  • Social skills: Helping children build and maintain friendships and develop meaningful relationships with important people in their life.

  • School readiness: Supporting the development of skills needed for a successful school transition.

  • School participation: Identifying and addressing barriers to participating in their school environments, collaborating with teachers and support staff to ensure that children’s needs are being met.

Childhood Trauma & Trauma-Responsive Practice:

  • Using attachment and relationship-building to foster resilience and confidence in children.

  • Supporting emotional well-being through co-regulation and secure relationships.

  • Strengthening parent-child connections through attachment-based play.

  • Addressing the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on development.

 

Geeta is trained in the following programs:

  • Hanen (4i's to Socialise)

 

Outside of work, Geeta enjoys camping, traveling to new places in the world most recently to Europe and Bali!

Geeta spends her free time with family and friends and playing with her kitten, Marley!
